Things you need when you buy a dog

After you have made the decision to buy a dog, you must know that owning a dog comes with its own set of responsibilities. With a dog, you get a companion for life, who will love you more than it loves itself. But just buying the dog is simply not enough to become a pet parent. You need the supplies too. Below are the main necessities that you need to buy to make sure your dog is comfortable.

Beds : All day we dream about the moment we would go home and crash into our comfy beds. Just like us, dogs too love the warmth and familiarity of their beds. When you buy the bed, make sure you choose one made using natural materials, with a nonskid bottom, and a removable cover. Pay attention to your dog’s sleeping habits, if they like to curl up and sleep, pick a donut-shaped or nest-style bed, and if they sprawl or stretch, choose a cushion, futon or raised bed.

Collars : Everyone knows that dogs love walks. Walks are a lot of fun, unless you are not using the right equipment. A collar and ID tag is a non-debatable part of the equipment. Just remember that puppies grow, and their collars should grow with them, so if you want to buy a designer leather dog collar, you should probably wait till your dog is full grown. Then there is the lead, which plays a vital role in the whole walking routine. The longer leash does allow the dogs a little more freedom to explore, but make sure that whatever lead you choose, it allows you to be in control at all times. If your dog is a bit more on the energetic side, you might consider using a chest harness for the walks.

Bowls : The food bowls that you buy for your dogs should take a bit of thought. There are three most commonly used materials, and the pros and cons for them are listed below:

  • Plastic Bowls: These bowls are durable and long-lasting, but if your puppy is teething and loves to chew on the bowls, plastic is probably not the best choice for you, as accidentally ingested plastic isn’t good for anyone.
  • Ceramic Bowls: These bowls are rather heavy and are very stable. These bowls come handy if you have dogs that tend to push the bowl around while eating. Con – Ceramics are porous, so you will need to clean these bowls daily.
  • Stainless Steel Bowls: These bowls are the most preferred ones by dog owners worldwide. Easy to clean and sanitize, these bowls are also the most durable. In fact, if you choose some bowls with rubber coating at the bottom, they also help with the sliding around part.
Grooming : No matter what kind of dog you have, grooming is essential, so buy the most suitable grooming brushes, shampoos, flee control, nail cutters, etc., and try to make the grooming a part of the dog’s daily routine, making it a habit rather than a nightmare for your dog.

Make your dog a happy dog, because they sure do deserve it. When you buy your dog products, ensure that you choose the right ones.
